Early Life and Discovery
Han Chae-young was born in Daegu, South Korea. When she was young, her family moved to the United States. She grew up near Chicago and went to Glenbrook South High School.
During a trip back to South Korea, a famous comedian noticed her. He suggested she try acting instead of going to college right away. This advice helped start her career in entertainment.
Acting Career
2000–2004: Starting Out
Han Chae-young chose her stage name and started her acting career in 2000. Her first role was in the horror movie The Record. She gained more attention for her role in the popular TV drama Autumn in My Heart. At first, some people said her acting was a little awkward, but she worked hard to improve.
Because of her tall and stylish looks, people started calling her the "Barbie Doll of Korea." This nickname helped her get many jobs in commercials. For a while, she was often chosen for roles as a beautiful, wealthy character.
2005–2008: A Big Success
In 2005, Han had a huge success with the romantic comedy show Sassy Girl Chun-hyang. She played the main character, a smart and energetic high school girl. The show was a modern version of a famous Korean folktale called Chunhyangjeon. It was very popular and was the number one show in its time slot for many weeks.
After this, she acted in the TV series Only You and Fireworks. In 2007, she starred in the movie Love Now. That same year, she also acted in a play for the first time, called Clumsy People. The play was so popular that all the tickets were sold for its entire run.

2009–2012: Going International
In 2009, Han made a special appearance in the hit drama Boys Over Flowers. She also starred in the movies Good Morning President and Girlfriends. She said that her character in Girlfriends was the most like her real personality and the most fun to play.
In 2010, she starred in A Man Called God, a TV show based on a Korean comic book, or manhwa. She also acted in an online movie called The Influence. Because she speaks English, she signed with an American talent agency, Creative Artists Agency (CAA).
