Han Chae-young, whose real name is Kim Ji-young, is a famous actress from South Korea. She was born on September 13, 1980. She became well-known for playing a challenging role in the TV show Autumn in My Heart in 2000. Later, she became even more popular as the main character in Sassy Girl Chun-hyang (2005). She has also starred in many other popular shows like Only You (2005), Fireworks (2006), and Boys Over Flowers (2009).

Han Chae-young was born Kim Ji-young in Daegu, South Korea. When she was young, her family moved to the United States. She grew up in a suburb near Chicago. While visiting Korea, a famous comedian noticed her. He suggested she try acting instead of going straight to college.
Han Chae-young's Acting Journey
Starting Her Career (2000–2004)
Han Chae-young began her acting career in 2000. She used the stage name Han Chae-young for her first role in the horror film The Record. She gained more attention for her role in the popular TV drama Autumn in My Heart.
People started calling her the "Barbie Doll of Korea." This was because of her tall and graceful appearance. This image helped her get many advertisements. However, for a few years, she often played characters who were beautiful and from rich families.
Becoming a Star (2005–2008)
In 2005, Han Chae-young became very successful with the romantic comedy TV series Sassy Girl Chun-hyang. She played a smart and lively high school girl who grew into a strong, independent woman. This show was a modern version of an old Korean story. It was very popular and was the top show in its time slot for many episodes.
After that, she played a single mom who loved cooking in Only You (2005). She also played a girl looking for a job in Exhibition of Fireworks (2006). In 2007, she starred in the film Love Now. In 2006, she joined BH Entertainment, an agency that manages many famous actors.
Han Chae-young also tried acting on stage for the first time. She performed in a play called Clumsy People. All the tickets for the play were sold out from December 2007 to March 2008. Later that year, she launched her own clothing line called Rachel Han's.
International Roles (2009–2012)
In 2009, she made a special appearance in the very popular drama Boys Over Flowers. She also starred in the films Good Morning President and Girlfriends. She once said that her character in Girlfriends was the most like her real self. She also said it was the most fun role she had played.
After a break from TV, Han Chae-young played a down-to-earth journalist in the 2010 show A Man Called God. This action-romance series was based on a popular comic book. It received good ratings during its run.
She also played a character in The Influence, an online mystery movie. This movie was about a love that could travel through time. Because Sassy Girl Chun-hyang was so popular, Han Chae-young became known as a "Korean Wave" star. This meant she started working in the Chinese market too. She starred in the 2011 Chinese film A Big Deal. She also had a main role in the Chinese TV drama Dream in Blue, which aired in 2012.
Recent Work (2013–Present)
In 2013, Han Chae-young joined a new agency called SM C&C. She returned to TV with the series Ad Genius Lee Tae-baek in 2013. This show was inspired by a famous advertising designer. She also reunited with actor Jo Hyun-jae, whom she had worked with in Only You. Her next series was Bel Ami, where she played a glamorous and successful woman.
In 2015, Han Chae-young started hosting her first variety show called Take Care of My Dressing Table. On this show, beauty experts shared their tips. She continued to work mostly in China, starring in the web series Beauty Master. She also appeared in the TV version of the Chinese novel The Rebirth of a Celebrity Superstar.
Since 2017, she has been a cast member of KBS2's Sister's Slam Dunk. She even made her singing debut as part of a temporary group called Unnies. In September 2017, Han Chae-young returned to movies with the comedy film The Star Next Door. She played a famous actress who secretly had a teenage daughter.
In 2018, Han Chae-young was cast in the MBC drama A Promise with the Gods. This was her first Korean drama role in four years. In December 2022, she signed with a new agency, J-Flex Entertainment. In 2024, Han Chae-young took on a new challenge. She was cast in Snow White's Revenge, her first regular role in a daily TV show since 2000. At 43, she played a 54-year-old villain, which was her first time playing the mother of an adult character.
Han Chae-young's Family Life
Han Chae-young married Korean-American businessman Choi Dong-joon on June 2, 2007. Their wedding was held at Hotel Shilla in Seoul. They welcomed their son on August 28, 2013.
