Hannelore Elsner (born Hannelore Elstner; 26 July 1942 – 21 April 2019) was a famous German actress. She had a very long career in TV shows and movies. She started acting on stage in Munich. Later, she became well-known for popular TV series like The Black Forest Clinic. She also played the main character, Inspector Lea Sommer, in the series Die Kommissarin. People around the world recognized her for her lead role in the 2000 film No Place to Go. This movie was even shown at the Cannes Film Festival.

Hannelore Elsner's Acting Career
Hannelore Elstner was born in Burghausen, Germany, on July 26, 1942. She later changed her last name to Elsner. After finishing her studies at a drama school in Munich, she began acting in local theaters.
Early Roles and Breakthrough
Hannelore Elsner appeared in her first film, Old Heidelberg, in 1959. She was only 17 years old at the time. A director named Edgar Reitz noticed her talent. He gave her a big role in the 1973 film Trip to Vienna. This was her first movie role outside of Germany.
Famous TV and Film Roles
Hannelore Elsner starred in many popular films and TV series. One of her well-known roles was in The Black Forest Clinic. She is especially remembered for playing Inspector Lea Sommer in the German detective series Die Kommissarin. This show aired on public television from 1994 to 2006. She was the first woman to play a police inspector in a German TV series, which was a big deal!

Hannelore Elsner won many awards for her acting. For her main role in No Place to Go, she received the Deutscher Filmpreis (German Film Award) for Best Actress. She also won the German Critics' Prize and the 2000 Bavarian Film Award for the same movie.
In 2003, she won the Best Actress award again at the German Film Awards for her role in My Last FilmGerman Order of Merit. This is a special award given to people who have done great things for Germany. She received it for her work in raising awareness about AIDS. In 2006, she was given the Bavarian Film Award for her entire career.

Hannelore Elsner was married three times. She was married to actor Gerd Vespermann from 1964 to 1966. Later, she married director Alf Brustellin in the 1970s, and they were together until he passed away in 1981. Her third marriage was to Uwe B. Carstensen from 1993 to 2000. In 1981, she had a son with director Dieter Wedel.
Hannelore Elsner passed away from cancer in a clinic in Munich on April 21, 2019. After her death, the German broadcaster BR changed its TV schedule. They showed many of her films and an interview to honor her amazing career.
