Hans Adam von Schöning (born October 1, 1641 – died August 28, 1696) was a very important military leader. He reached the rank of Generalfeldmarschall, which is a Field Marshal. He served both Brandenburg-Prussia and the Electorate of Saxony.

Schöning was born in Tamsel, a town near Küstrin in the Margraviate of Brandenburg. He had many important family connections. For example, his uncle was Field Marshal Georg von Derfflinger. His family also included famous people like Field Marshal von Wrangel and even the rocket scientist, Wernher von Braun.

He studied at the University of Wittenberg and Strasbourg University. After his studies, he traveled around Europe for several years. He returned home in 1664 after his parents passed away.

Von Schöning died on August 28, 1696, in Dresden. He was buried in the chapel at Tamsel (which is now called Dąbroszyn in Poland). Hans Adam von Schöning also owned an estate in Brzoza.

Family Life

Hans Adam's parents were Hans Adam (who died in 1664) and Marianne. In 1668, he married Johanna Margarethe Luise. They had two sons: Boguslaus and Johann (Hans) Ludwig. Both of his sons also became military officers.

Military Achievements

Hans Adam von Schöning was a brave and skilled soldier. He fought in many important wars. These included the Turkish Wars and the Nine Years War against France. He also fought in the war against Sweden from 1675 to 1679.

He played a key role in capturing cities like Stettin, Rügen, and Stralsund. He also helped to push Sweden out of Prussia. From 1677 to 1684, Schöning was in charge of the 1st Prussian Infantry Regiment. In 1689, he helped lead the successful Siege of Bonn.

Field Marshal von Schöning later built a beautiful castle in Tamsel. This place is now called Dabroszyn or Dąbroszynie in Poland. The castle estate has a church built in a style called Neo-Gothic. This church holds a special burial place for the von Schöning family and other related families.
