About Hansford Rowe
Hansford Herndon Rowe Jr. was born in Richmond, Virginia, in 1924. His parents were Virginia Isabel and Hansford Herndon Rowe, who was a veterinarian (an animal doctor). Hansford was one of five children in his family.
He went to John Marshall High School. During World War II, he served in the US Navy. He worked as a radio controller on a minesweeper warship in the South Pacific. After the war, he studied Theater Arts at the University of Richmond.
Acting Career
Hansford Rowe started his acting career in television. His first TV role was in the 1967 movie The Thanksgiving Visitor.
Early TV Roles
In 1968, he appeared in the popular TV show Dark Shadows. He played a judge in three episodes, but he did not have any speaking lines. The next year, in 1969, he played another judge on the long-running TV show The Guiding Light.
Famous Roles
Rowe played an important role in the 1983 NBC miniseries V. He was Arthur Dupres, the stepfather of the resistance leader Mike Donovan. He played this role again in the 1984 sequel, V: The Final Battle.
He also made guest appearances on many other TV shows. These include L.A. Law, Six Feet Under, and Will & Grace. He even played President Harry S. Truman in the show Dark Skies.
Movie and Stage Work
Hansford Rowe acted in several movies. Some of his film roles include Missing (1982) and Baby Boom (1987).
In 1980, he performed on Broadway in the play Nuts. For his work in this play, he was nominated for a special award called the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play.
Personal Life and Passing
Hansford Rowe was married and had two sons. He also had another son through marriage.
He passed away on September 5, 2017, at the age of 93. He died in a car accident in Newhall, California. He chose to donate his body for scientific study after his death.
