Setiawan Hanung Bramantyo (born 1 October 1975) is a famous Indonesian film director. He is known for making many different kinds of movies, from fun teen romances to serious religious stories.
Hanung Bramantyo became interested in theatre when he was a child. He made his first short film, Tlutur, in 1998. His first full-length movie was Brownies in 2004. After directing several popular films, he made the religious romance Ayat-Ayat Cinta in 2008. This movie was a big hit and very well-liked. Since then, he has directed more films with religious themes, as well as two movies about sports.

Early Life and Education
Hanung Bramantyo was born in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, on 1 October 1975. He is the oldest of five children. He went to schools run by the Muhammadiyah organization.
When he was in elementary school, he became very interested in theatre. In high school, he even performed a play called Waiting for Godot with his drama group. After trying out an economics program at the Islamic University of Indonesia, he decided to study at the Yogyakarta Educational and Teaching Institute. Later, he moved to Jakarta and studied at the Jakarta Art Institute, where he learned more about filmmaking.

Hanung Bramantyo released his first short film, Tlutur, in 1998. This film was about a dancer. After that, he made a television film called Gelas-gelas Berdenting (Tinkling Glass). Even though he first wanted to make less mainstream films, he later started making movies for a wider audience.
