Harold Perrineau (born August 7, 1963) is an American actor famous for his roles in movies and television shows. You might know him as Link in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, or as Michael Dawson in the popular TV series Lost. He also played Mercutio in the 1996 movie Romeo + Juliet.

Perrineau has appeared in many other projects. He starred in the prison drama Oz and the horror series From. His work has earned him awards and made him a familiar face to audiences around the world.

Early Life and Education

Harold Perrineau was born in Brooklyn, New York City. For a short time as a child, his last name was changed to Williams. He changed it back when he became an actor because another actor was already named Harold Williams in the Screen Actors Guild.

To build his skills, Perrineau studied at Shenandoah University. He also trained at the famous Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, which helped him in his acting career.

Acting Career

Stage and Early Roles

Perrineau's career began on stage. In 1989, he was in the first-ever stage version of the movie Fame. He played the character Tyrone Jackson. This role helped launch his career in acting.

His first big movie role was in the 1995 film Smoke. His performance was so good that he was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. A year later, he played the exciting character Mercutio in Baz Luhrmann's modern version of Romeo + Juliet.

The Matrix Series

In 2003, Perrineau joined the world of The Matrix. He played Link, the pilot of the ship Nebuchadnezzar in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. Link was a key character who helped Neo and the crew navigate the dangerous world of the Matrix.

The TV Show Lost

From 2004 to 2010, Perrineau played Michael Dawson in the hit ABC show Lost. His character was one of the survivors of a plane crash on a mysterious island. He was a main character for the first two seasons and returned in later seasons. For his work with the cast of Lost, he won a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2006.

Other Notable Roles

Perrineau has shown his talent in many different kinds of roles. He starred in the HBO series Oz as Augustus Hill, a prisoner who often narrated the show's stories. He also appeared in the horror movie 28 Weeks Later and the comedy The Best Man.

More recently, he played Dean Simms in the TV show Claws from 2017 to 2022. This role won him an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2020. Since 2022, he has starred as Sheriff Boyd Stevens in the science fiction horror series From.

Besides acting, Perrineau is also a musician. He released his first single, "Stay Strong," in 2007. He has worked on his own album and performed his music live with a full band. He has also appeared in music videos for artists like MKTO and J. Cole.

Personal Life

Perrineau married Brittany Robinson in 2002. She is a former model and has also acted. She even appeared in an episode of Lost.

The couple has three daughters. Their oldest daughter, Aurora Perrineau, born in 1994, is also an actress. Their other daughters are Wynter Aria (born in 2008) and Holiday Grace (born in 2013).
