Lost was a popular American television show. It was about people who survived an airplane crash. Their plane landed on a mysterious tropical island in the South Pacific. Each episode often showed what was happening on the island. It also showed stories from a character's past or future.
The show was created by J. J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof, and Jeffrey Lieber. Most of the filming happened in Oahu, Hawaii. The very first episode aired on September 22, 2004. The series had a total of six seasons.
Lost was made by ABC Studios, Bad Robot Productions, and Grass Skirt Productions. It was shown on the ABC Network in the United States. Other TV networks showed it in different countries. Because it had many actors and was filmed in Hawaii, Lost was one of the most expensive shows on TV.
During its first year, Lost had about 15.5 million viewers per episode. It won many important awards. These included the Emmy Award for best drama series in 2005. It also won best American import at the British Academy Television Awards in 2005. The show finished with its sixth season. This final season ran from February to May 2010.
The Mysterious Story of Lost
Season 1: Stranded on the Island
The first season of Lost started on September 22, 2004. There were 24 episodes shown on Wednesday nights. After their plane, Oceanic Flight 815, crashes, the survivors must work together. They try to stay alive on the strange island.
The group finds many mysterious things. These include polar bears and an unseen monster. They also discover other people living there, called the "Others." A Frenchwoman who has been on the island for 16 years also appears. The survivors find a metal hatch (a secret door) buried in the ground. Some of them even try to leave the island using a raft.
Season 2: The Hatch and New Faces
Season 2 had 23 episodes. It began on September 21, 2005, airing on Wednesdays. Much of this season focuses on the fight between the survivors and the Others. Some survivors go down into the hatch. Inside, they find a secret underground building. A man named Desmond has been living there for three years.
They learn about the DHARMA Initiative. This was a group of scientists who built the hatch. They also built many other buildings on the island. The characters meet new survivors from the back part of the crashed plane. One of the crash survivors secretly works with the Others.
Season 3: War and Rescue Attempts
Season 3 had 22 episodes. It started on October 4, 2006, on Wednesdays. The story continues 67 days after the plane crash. More new crash survivors and Others are introduced. The original survivors learn more about the Others. They also learn about the Others' long history on the island.
A war begins between the Others and the survivors. The survivors manage to contact a rescue team. This gives them hope of leaving the island.
Season 4: The Kahana and Flashforwards
Season 4 aired from January 31 to May 29, 2008. Only 8 of the planned 16 episodes were filmed at first. This was due to a writer's strike. After the strike ended, 5 more episodes were made.
In this season, people from a ship called the Kahana arrive. These new characters are not truly a rescue team. They actually put the crash survivors in danger. Later, six of the survivors manage to escape the island. They become famous and are known as the "Oceanic Six." The show uses "flashforwards" to show what they do after returning home. These scenes show events from the future.
Season 5: Time Travel and the DHARMA Initiative
Season 5 was shown from January 21 to May 13, 2009. This season follows two different timelines. In the first timeline, the remaining survivors on the island time travel through many different time periods. In the second timeline, the Oceanic Six try to return to the island.
Later in the season, most characters end up on the island in the year 1977. They join the DHARMA Initiative, the group of scientists who lived there. Some characters then return to the island in 2007. There, they meet Jacob, who is the leader of the Others.
Season 6: The Final Chapter
Season 6 began on February 2, 2010. It was the final season of the show. This season had 18 episodes. To keep the story a surprise, the producers did not show any preview scenes.
