Harold Sylvester (born February 10, 1949) is an American film and television actor. He is known for his roles in many movies and TV shows. Many people recognize him from his part as Griff on the TV series Married... with Children.

Harold Sylvester's Early Life and School
Harold Sylvester grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended St. Augustine High School in New Orleans. After high school, he received a special scholarship for basketball. This scholarship allowed him to attend Tulane University. He chose Tulane even though he could have gone to Harvard University.
In 1972, Harold graduated from Tulane University. He earned degrees in both theater and psychology. He was also the first African American person to receive an athletic scholarship from Tulane. This was a very important moment in the university's history.
Harold Sylvester's Acting Career
Harold Sylvester has had a long and successful career in acting. He is perhaps best known for his role as Griff on the popular TV show Married... with Children. On the show, Griff was a friend and co-worker of Al Bundy at the shoe store.
Harold has appeared in many other television series. These include the miniseries Wheels (1978) and shows like Barnaby Jones and Today's F.B.I.. He also had a recurring role on City of Angels. You might have seen him as Dwayne Wayne's father, Woodson "Woodchuck" Wayne, on A Different World. His most recent TV show was The Army Show. Harold has also made guest appearances on many other shows, from Hill Street Blues to Murder, She Wrote.
His very first role in Hollywood was as Nathan in Part 2, Sounder. This movie was a sequel to the well-known film Sounder. He also had important supporting roles in several movies. These include An Officer and a Gentleman (1982), Uncommon Valor (1983), Innerspace (1987), and Corrina, Corrina (1994). For a time, he worked as a contract actor for Universal Studios.
Harold Sylvester also wrote a screenplay for a TV movie called Passing Glory (1998). This story was based on his own experiences playing high school basketball. It showed a historic game between his all-black team from St. Augustine High School and an all-white team from Jesuit High School. This game was a groundbreaking event.
The Amistad Research Center in New Orleans keeps a collection of Harold Sylvester's papers. These papers include his letters, movie and TV scripts, and information about his work with the Free Southern Theater. They also have materials from his own company, Blue Bayou Productions.
