Harriet Parr (1828–1900) was an English author who lived during the Victorian era. She wrote many books, including novels and fairy tales for children. She used the pen name Holme Lee for most of her works.
About Harriet Parr
Harriet Parr was born in York, England, on January 31, 1828. Her father was a commercial traveler, which means he traveled for business. Harriet never married.
She first worked as a governess, teaching children in their homes. Later, she became a successful writer. Her first book, Maude Talbot, was published in 1854. After that, she wrote about one novel each year until 1883. All these books were published by a company in London called Smith, Elder & Co..
Her Connection to Charles Dickens
Even the famous author Charles Dickens enjoyed Harriet Parr's early books! He bought three of her stories to include in the special Christmas editions of his weekly magazines. One of these stories even included a hymn that was later printed in many songbooks in Britain and the United States.
Harriet Parr also wrote several books of fairy tales for children. She wrote some non-fiction books too, usually using her real name instead of her pen name.
She lived for many years in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight. She passed away there on February 18, 1900.

Her book Legends from Fairy Land was re-released in 1907 with new illustrations by the brothers Horace and Reginald Knowles. It was even reprinted again in 1988!
