Harry Baur (born April 12, 1880 – died April 8, 1943) was a famous French actor. He started his career on stage and later appeared in around 80 films. He was known for his strong and memorable performances.

Early Life and Acting Career
Harry Baur was born in Montrouge, France. He began his acting journey in theater. His talent quickly made him a well-known stage actor. Later, he moved into the world of movies. He made his first film in 1909.
Famous Film Roles
Harry Baur played many important characters in his films. One of his most praised roles was as the famous composer Ludwig van Beethoven. This was in the movie Beethoven's Great Love (1936). He also played Jean Valjean in the 1934 film version of Les Misérables. This is a very well-known story.
He also acted in a silent film about Beethoven in 1909. And he was in La voyante (1923), which was the last movie for the famous actress Sarah Bernhardt.
Challenges During World War II
In 1942, Harry Baur was in Berlin for his last film. While he was there, his wife, Rika Radifé, was arrested. She was accused of being a spy. Harry Baur tried very hard to get her released. Because of his efforts, he was also arrested. He was falsely accused of being Jewish and was treated very badly.
He was set free in April 1943. However, he sadly passed away in Paris shortly after. The exact reasons for his death were not fully explained.

Harry Baur was a very respected actor. The American actor Rod Steiger said that Baur was one of his favorite actors. He also said that Harry Baur greatly influenced his own acting style and career. This shows how much Harry Baur's work was admired by others in the film industry.
