Hartford, also known as Old Hartford, is a small community in Pulaski County, Georgia, in the United States. It is not an official city or town. Instead, it is an unincorporated community. This means it does not have its own local government. Instead, it is governed by the county. Hartford is located a short distance east of Hawkinsville. Hawkinsville is the main town and the county seat for Pulaski County.

Where is Hartford?

Hartford is found in the state of Georgia, in the southeastern United States. It sits at a crossroads where several important roads meet. These roads include Alternate U.S. Route 129 and several Georgia State Routes. The community is about 256 feet (78 meters) above sea level. This makes it a relatively low-lying area.

A Bit of History

Hartford has an interesting past. The community was named after a brave woman named Nancy Hart. She was a hero during the American Revolutionary War. Hartford played an important role in Pulaski County's early days. From 1809 to 1836, Hartford was the official county seat. A county seat is the town where the county government offices are located. This means that for many years, Hartford was the center of government for Pulaski County.

However, in 1836, the county seat was moved. It was transferred to the nearby city of Hawkinsville. Even though it's no longer the county seat, Hartford remains a quiet community with a rich history. It reminds us of Georgia's past and how communities grow and change over time.
