Hatchet Lake is a beautiful, faraway lake located in the north-eastern part of Saskatchewan, Canada. You can find it just north of another large lake called Wollaston Lake.

A river named the Fond du Lac River starts its journey from Wollaston Lake. It then flows right through Hatchet Lake. After leaving Hatchet Lake, the river continues on to Black Lake before finally reaching Lake Athabasca.

Discovering Hatchet Lake

Hatchet Lake is known for being a remote and peaceful spot. It is a great place for people who love fishing and nature. The largest island in the lake is called Topping Island.

The Hatchet Lake Lodge

In 1963, a special place called the Hatchet Lake Lodge was built. It is located on Sandy Island, which is one of the islands close to the eastern side of Hatchet Lake. This lodge is a "fly-in" fishing lodge. This means that visitors usually arrive by airplane, as it is quite far from regular roads.

Getting to Hatchet Lake

Because Hatchet Lake is so remote, getting there often involves flying. The Hatchet Lake Lodge operates two ways for people to arrive:

  • The Hatchet Lake Airport is a small airport for planes to land.
  • The Hatchet Lake Water Aerodrome is a special area on the water where floatplanes (planes that can land on water) can arrive and depart.

These travel options make it possible for people to visit this unique and distant lake.
