Peace Treaty with Egypt
After the Battle of Kadesh, King Hattusili III and the Egyptian pharaoh Ramesses II decided to make peace. They signed a special agreement called a peace treaty. This treaty is very important because it is the oldest peace treaty that we still have today!
A Lasting Friendship
The treaty helped create a long period of peace between the Hittite and Egyptian empires. It was based on older Hittite agreements. To make the peace even stronger, Ramesses II married Hattusili's daughter. Years later, he married another Hittite princess. This showed how close the two powerful empires had become.
