Haverhill is a small, unincorporated community in Butler County, Kansas, United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Haverhill is located about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) east of Augusta.
History
Haverhill has a short but interesting history. It was once a busier place than it is today.
Early Days and Mail Service
A post office was opened in Haverhill in 1880. This was a very important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years. However, it closed down in 1933.
The Railroad Connection
Haverhill was also an important stop on the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway. This means it was a "station and shipping point." Trains would stop here to pick up and drop off goods. This helped the community grow by connecting it to other places.
Education
Students living in Haverhill attend schools in the Bluestem USD 205 public school district. A public school district is a group of schools that are managed together. They provide education for all the children in a specific area.
