What Havfisk Does
Havfisk operates 15 large fishing boats called fishing trawlers. These boats fish in the waters north of 62 degrees in Norway. The company has special permits to catch about 9% of all the fish allowed in that area.
Processing Plants
Besides fishing, Havfisk also owns and runs eleven processing factories. Six of these factories are in Norway. The other five are located in Denmark. The company is set up so that most of the fish they process comes from their own fishing boats. About two-thirds of their processing work uses fish they caught themselves.
Who Uses Their Fish
Many well-known food companies buy seafood from Havfisk. Some of these companies include Findus, Nestlé, and Unilever. They use Havfisk's fish in their own products.
Havfisk's History
Havfisk was first created in 2005. It was formed when three companies joined together. These companies were Norway Seafoods, West Fish-Aarsæther, and Nordic Sea Holding.
Company Name Change
In May 2005, the company's shares were listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange. This meant people could buy and sell parts of the company. Later, in 2013, Aker Seafoods changed its name to Havfisk.
Acquired by Lerøy
In 2016, another company called Lerøy bought Havfisk. This means Havfisk is now part of the Lerøy group.
