The Hayes site (also known as 3 AR 37) is an exciting archaeological site located near Bayou Meto in Arkansas County, Arkansas, USA. An archaeological site is a place where people lived a long time ago. We can find clues about their lives there. This site was once home to people of the Plum Bayou culture. They lived here between 650 and 1050 CE. This time period is known as the Late Woodland period.

What Was the Hayes Site Like?

The Hayes site was a special place with several large earth structures. It had four platform mounds. A platform mound is a big, flat-topped hill made by people. These mounds were likely used for important buildings or ceremonies.

The Plaza Area

The mounds at the Hayes site were arranged around a plaza. A plaza is an open, flat area. It was probably a central gathering spot for the community. People might have held meetings or celebrations there.

Clues from the Past

Archaeologists have not yet dug deeply into the Hayes site. This means they have not done a full "excavation." However, they have found many pieces of ceramics on the surface.
