Hazel Dorothy Campbell was born in Jamaica. She went to Merl Grove High School in Kingston. Later, she studied English and Spanish at the University of the West Indies. She also earned diplomas in Mass Communications and Management.
Her Career
Hazel Campbell had many different jobs. She was a teacher and worked in public relations. She also edited, wrote articles, and made videos. She worked for important government groups in Jamaica. These included the Jamaican Information Service and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1987, she worked for herself as a communications expert.
Her Books
Hazel Campbell's first book was The Rag Doll & Other Stories. It came out in 1978. She became one of Jamaica's most active writers. She was especially known for her books for children. The Jamaica Gleaner newspaper said she truly understood children. They noted she was gifted at writing stories that kept kids interested.
Her short stories appeared in many collections. Some of these include West Indian Stories (1981) and Facing the Sea (1986).
