Museum History

The Heartland Museum started in 1986. Four men from Lexington had the idea to create it. They wanted a place to show military vehicles.

In 1991, the museum found its permanent home. This is the same spot it is on today, near Interstate 80. Later, in 1998, a large building was built. This building is 16,000 square feet and holds many of the vehicles.

What You Can See

The museum has a huge collection of about 100 military vehicles. These include helicopters, big tanks, and even ambulances. You can also see a jeep from every part of the military!

Besides vehicles, there are many other cool things to explore. You can see displays of weapons and uniforms. There are also engines and other military equipment. The museum even shows everyday items soldiers used, like MREs (Meals, Ready-to-Eat). You can also find unique vehicles, like some used by the German army in World War II.
