Hege Skjeie (born May 15, 1955 – died October 5, 2018) was an important Norwegian political scientist and feminist. She studied how governments work and how society can be fairer for everyone.

Hege Skjeie's Life and Work
Hege Skjeie was born in Kristiansand, Norway. She was a very smart student, earning a special degree in political science in 1992. Political science is the study of how governments are organized and how people make decisions in society.
Becoming a Professor
In 1997, Hege Skjeie started teaching political science at the University of Oslo. She worked hard and became a full professor in 2000. This was a big deal because she was the very first woman in Norway to become a Professor of Political Science!
Working for Equality
Hege Skjeie was also a strong feminist. This means she believed in equal rights and opportunities for all people, no matter their gender. In 2010, the Government of Norway chose her to lead a special group called the Equality Commission. This group was also known as the Skjeie Commission.
The Equality Commission's Goal
The main goal of the Equality Commission was to study Norway's policies on fairness and equal opportunities. They looked at how well Norway was doing to make sure everyone had the same chances in life. Hege Skjeie helped guide this important work.
Other Important Roles
Before becoming a professor, Hege Skjeie worked as a researcher. From 1984 to 1997, she was at the Norwegian Institute for Social Research. She also spent time studying at Harvard University in the United States from 1988 to 1989. Later, she was a special professor at Aalborg University in Denmark. She also wrote articles for a newspaper called Dagens Næringsliv.
Hege Skjeie dedicated her life to understanding politics and making society more equal for everyone.
