About Prince Heinrich XXVII
Early Life and Family
Heinrich XXVII was born in a town called Gera. He was the oldest child of Heinrich XIV, Prince Reuss Younger Line. His mother was Duchess Agnes of Württemberg. His family was part of a long line of German princes.
Becoming a Prince
When his father passed away on March 29, 1913, Heinrich XXVII became the new Prince of the Reuss Younger Line. He also took on an important job as a regent (someone who rules for a prince who cannot). He was regent for Prince Heinrich XXIV of the Reuss Elder Line. Prince Heinrich XXIV could not rule because of an accident he had as a child.
End of His Rule
Prince Heinrich XXVII stopped being a ruler on November 11, 1918. This happened during the German Revolution. During this time, many German monarchies (countries ruled by kings or princes) were ended. He was one of the last German rulers to give up his throne.
Later, in 1927, Prince Heinrich XXIV died. This meant the Elder Line of the Reuss family ended. Because of this, Heinrich XXVII became the only Prince Reuss.
Family Life
Heinrich XXVII married Princess Elise of Hohenlohe-Langenburg on November 11, 1884. They got married in a town called Langenburg. Princess Elise was the daughter of Hermann, Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg.
Heinrich and Elise had five children together:
- Princess Viktoria Reuss Younger Line (born 1889 – died 1918). She married Duke Adolf Friedrich of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.
