Heinrich 'Heiri' Suter (born July 10, 1899 – died November 6, 1978) was a famous Swiss road racing cyclist. He was especially good at winning "classic" bike races. These are long, tough one-day events.
Heiri Suter made history in 1923. He was the first cyclist from outside Belgium to win the Tour of Flanders race. Just two weeks later, he also won Paris–Roubaix. This made him the first cyclist ever to win both of these huge races in the same year! He also holds a record. He won Züri-Metzgete, Switzerland's most important one-day race, an amazing six times.
Heiri Suter won 58 professional races during his career. Some of his biggest wins include:
- Grand Prix Wolber (which was like an unofficial world championship): 1922, 1925
- Swiss Road Champion: 1920, 1921, 1922, 1926, 1929
- Swiss motor-paced champion: 1932, 1933
- Züri-Metzgete: 1919, 1920, 1922, 1924, 1928, 1929
- Paris–Roubaix: 1923

Heiri Suter's Amazing Career
Heiri Suter started his professional cycling career in 1919. He quickly showed he was a talented rider.
Early Wins (1919-1922)
In his first year, 1919, Heiri won the Züri-Metzgete race. He won it again in 1920 and 1922. He also became the Swiss National Road Champion three times in a row, from 1920 to 1922. In 1922, he won the Grand Prix Wolber. This race was seen as a very important international event.
Historic Year: 1923
The year 1923 was special for Heiri Suter. He won two of the toughest "classic" races in cycling.
- First, he won the Tour of Flanders. This was a big deal because he was the first non-Belgian to win this race.
- Just two weeks later, he won Paris–Roubaix. This race is famous for its rough cobblestone roads.
Winning both of these races in the same year was a huge achievement. No one had done it before him!
More Victories (1924-1929)
Heiri continued to win many races after his big year.
- He won Züri-Metzgete again in 1924, 1928, and 1929. This brought his total wins in that race to six, a record!
- In 1925, he won the Bordeaux–Paris race. This was another very long and challenging classic.
- He also won the Grand Prix Wolber for a second time in 1925.
- He became the Swiss National Road Champion two more times, in 1926 and 1929.
- He won Paris–Tours twice, in 1926 and 1927.
Later Career (1932-1933)
Towards the end of his career, Heiri Suter also became the Swiss National motor-paced champion in 1932 and 1933. In motor-paced racing, cyclists ride behind a motorbike that sets a fast pace.
Heiri Suter's career was full of amazing wins. He is remembered as one of Switzerland's greatest cyclists.
