Helaine Head (born January 17, 1947, in Los Angeles, California) is an American director. She has directed many different types of projects. These include movies, television shows, and plays for the theatre.

Helaine Head's Career

Helaine Head started her career working in theatre. In the 1970s and early 1980s, she directed and managed many stage productions. These were often shown on Broadway, which is famous for its plays.

Later, she moved into directing for television. She directed episodes for popular TV shows like St. Elsewhere, Cagney & Lacey, L.A. Law, and Law & Order. She also directed several TV movies.

In 1985, Helaine Head worked on two movies: The Color Purple and Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins.

Directing The Danger Team

In 1990, Helaine Head directed a special called The Danger Team. This was a 24-minute claymation show. Claymation is a type of animation where characters are made from clay. They are then filmed one tiny movement at a time. This special also mixed clay characters with real actors. It was meant to be the first episode of a new TV series. The show aired on ABC in 1991. However, it was not continued as a full series.

Teaching Directing

In the 2000s, Helaine Head became a professor. She teaches directing at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. This is a well-known film school. She teaches students how to direct for television and how to direct different types of productions.
