About the Hellinsia Nephogenes Moth
This moth is quite small. Its wingspan is about 14 to 17 millimeters. That's roughly the length of a small paperclip!
What the Moth Looks Like
The antennae of the moth are white near its head. They become dark brown towards the tips. The head of the moth is a light beige color at the bottom. Its body, called the thorax, is also beige.
The front wings are grey. They have a mix of beige and brown scales, especially towards the tips. There are also some completely white scales near the middle of these wings. The back wings are dark grey and covered with brown scales.
What the Moth Eats
The young moths, called larvae, have a special diet. They feed only on a plant known as Scalesia affinis. This plant is important for their growth.
Life Cycle of the Moth
Adult Hellinsia nephogenes moths have been seen during certain months. People have recorded them in March, July, August, and December. It is thought that these moths have two generations each year. This means they complete their full life cycle twice in one year.
