Helmut Dietl (born June 22, 1944 – died March 30, 2015) was a famous German film director and writer. He was known for creating popular TV shows and movies. He was born in Bad Wiessee, Germany.

Helmut Dietl's Early Life and Career

After finishing school in 1958, Helmut Dietl studied theatre and art history. He then worked at the Munich Kammerspiele theatre. He started as head of photography and later became an assistant director.

Dietl first became successful with the TV series Monaco Franze. He later made several important films. He often worked with the writer Patrick Süskind.

In 1998, Dietl was part of the judging team at the 48th Berlin International Film Festival. This is a very important film festival.
