Heneage Finch, 2nd Earl of Aylesford (born in 1683, died in 1757) was an important person in British history. He was a member of the House of Lords, which is part of the British Parliament. From 1714 to 1719, he was known by the title Lord Guernsey.

Early Life and Family

Heneage Finch was the son of Heneage Finch, 1st Earl of Aylesford. He was the oldest son and would inherit his father's titles and lands. His father passed away in 1719.

His Work in Government

Heneage Finch was involved in British politics for many years.

Representing the People

From 1704 to 1705, he was a Member of Parliament (MP) for a town called Maidstone. This meant he represented the people of Maidstone in the British House of Commons. The House of Commons is another part of the British Parliament.

Later, from 1710 to 1719, he was an MP for the county of Surrey. This role was sometimes called a "knight of the shire." It meant he represented the entire county.

Master of the Jewel Office

From 1711 to 1716, Heneage Finch held a special job called the Master of the Jewel Office. In this role, he was in charge of the King's or Queen's jewels and valuable items.

Family Life

Heneage Finch married Mary Fisher. She was born in 1690 and passed away in 1740. Mary was the daughter of Sir Clement Fisher, who owned a large estate called Packington Hall in Warwickshire.

Heneage and Mary had several children, including:

  • Heneage Finch, 3rd Earl of Aylesford, who was their oldest son. He later became the 3rd Earl of Aylesford.

  • Frances (died 1761) married William Courtenay in 1741. He was a very important person from Powderham Castle in Devon.
