About Henjo Richter's Music Journey
Henjo Richter taught himself how to play music. He started playing instruments when he was 13 years old. He has been a part of the German heavy metal music scene for a long time.
Joining Gamma Ray
Gamma Ray became Henjo's first big band. He joined them in 1997. He took over as the guitarist for their album Somewhere Out in Space. Before that, the previous guitarist, Dirk Schlächter, switched to playing bass.
Early Bands and Other Projects
In the mid-1980s, Henjo was a member of a heavy metal band called Rampage. He replaced a guitarist named Roland Grapow in that band. Interestingly, Michael Weikath from the band Helloween also thought about asking Henjo to join Helloween. If that had happened, Henjo would have replaced Roland Grapow again!
In 2001, a musician named Tobias Sammet asked Henjo to play guitar for his special music project called Avantasia.
Health and Touring Challenges
In 2005, Henjo had to miss some of Gamma Ray's tour. This happened while they were promoting their album Majestic. He got hurt when he fell down some stairs on a ferry. The ferry was traveling between Sweden and Finland.
Later, in March 2010, Henjo was in the hospital. He had a problem with his eye called a retinal detachment. Because of this, another musician, Kasperi Heikkinen, filled in for him. Kasperi played for Gamma Ray's shows in Germany and the Czech Republic.
Forming The Unity
In 2017, Gamma Ray's website announced exciting news. Henjo Richter had started a new band called The Unity. He formed this band with Michael Ehré. Their first album was released in the spring of 2017.
