Hendrikus Johannes Paulus Overgoor (born 30 April 1944) was a famous Dutch footballer. He was often called Henk Overgoor. He played as a left back, which is a defensive position in football.

Henk was born in Gendringen, a town in the Netherlands. He played for two main clubs during his career. From 1963 to 1965, he played for Go Ahead Eagles. Then, from 1965 to 1979, he played for De Graafschap.

Henk Overgoor's Football Journey

Henk Overgoor spent most of his career playing for De Graafschap. With this team, he achieved great success. They won the 1968–69 Tweede Divisie, which was a football league in the Netherlands.

He also played for four years in the Eredivisie. This is the highest professional football league in the Netherlands. Henk played a huge number of matches for De Graafschap. He played a total of 393 league and cup games. This amazing number put him fourth on the club's list of players with the most appearances.

Nickname and Memorable Moment

Henk Overgoor had a special nickname: De Kapper. This means "The Hairdresser" in Dutch. He got this nickname because his family owned a hairdressing business.

He was also part of a very memorable football match in October 1973. De Graafschap played against Feyenoord, a very strong team. Even though De Graafschap lost 5-7, Henk scored a goal. During this exciting game, he had a scary moment when he almost choked on his chewing gum. Luckily, his teammate, Guus Hiddink, quickly helped him by hitting him on the back, and Henk was able to breathe again.

Later Life

Henk Overgoor passed away in Amsterdam on 23 April 2020. He was 75 years old, just a week before his 76th birthday.
