Henry Bullock was an important English church leader and scholar who lived a long time ago, in the 1500s. He was a good friend of Erasmus, a very famous thinker of that time. They even wrote letters to each other!

Henry Bullock's Life Story

Henry Bullock came from a place in England called the diocese of Lichfield and Coventry. He went to college at the University of Cambridge. He earned his first degree in 1503 or 1504.

In 1506, he became a special member, called a fellow, at Queens' College, Cambridge. He earned more degrees in 1507 and 1520. From 1524 to 1525, he was the vice-chancellor of the university. This was a very important job, like being a principal of the whole university!

Henry Bullock first taught math at the university. Later, he started studying Greek, an ancient language. He even gave talks about the gospel of Matthew using his Greek knowledge.

He was very close with Erasmus. Their letters show how good friends they were. His friends from other countries sometimes called him 'Bovillus.' This was a Latin way of saying his name.

Henry Bullock wasn't always in good health. He even lost an eye, which made his work harder. He became a priest and worked at St. Martin's Ludgate church from 1522 or 1523. He stayed there until he passed away in 1526. After he died, Queens' College bought all the books from his personal library.
