Henry Cromwell-Williams was born as Henry Cromwell on June 22, 1625. His father was also named Henry Cromwell (1586–1657). They lived in a place called Ramsey, Huntingdonshire. Henry went to Magdalene College, Cambridge to study.

When his father passed away in 1657, Henry inherited his family's estate in Ramsey. However, he later sold this property in 1664.

Starting His Political Journey

Henry Cromwell began his political career in 1654. He was chosen to be a Member of Parliament for Huntingdonshire. A Member of Parliament (MP) is a person elected to represent an area in the government.

He served in the First Protectorate Parliament in 1654. He was elected again for the Second Protectorate Parliament in 1656. Then, he was re-elected for the Third Protectorate Parliament in 1659. These parliaments were part of the government during a time when England was not ruled by a king.

Changing His Name and Career

In 1660, Henry Cromwell decided to change his name. He added "Williams" to his last name, becoming Henry Cromwell-Williams. This was the same year that the monarchy was restored in England.

He continued his political work. He was elected as an MP for Huntingdonshire in the Convention Parliament in 1660. He was then re-elected in 1661 for the Cavalier Parliament. He remained an MP until he passed away in 1673. He was 48 years old when he died.

Later Life and Role

From 1671 until his death, Henry Cromwell-Williams held a special position. He was a Gentleman of the Privy Chamber. This was an important role, often involving attendance on the monarch.

Henry Cromwell-Williams married his cousin, Anne Cromwell. She was the daughter of Richard Cromwell of Upwood. However, they did not have any children.
