Henry Hungerford (born July 23, 1611 – died May 27, 1673) was an important English politician. He served in the House of Commons, which is a part of England's Parliament, for many years between 1645 and 1660. He helped make decisions and laws for the country during a very interesting time in history.

Who Was Henry Hungerford?

Henry Hungerford was the son of Sir Anthony Hungerford. His family lived at Stoke House, which was near a town called Great Bedwyn in Wiltshire, England.

Early Life and Education

When Henry Hungerford was 19 years old, he started studying at Queen's College, Oxford University in 1631. He worked hard and earned his first degree, a Bachelor of Arts (BA), in 1633. After his university studies, he went on to train as a lawyer. In 1642, he became a lawyer at Lincoln's Inn, which is one of the famous places in London where lawyers are trained.

A Career in Parliament

The House of Commons is where elected representatives, called Members of Parliament (MPs), meet to discuss and create laws for the country. Henry Hungerford became an MP several times.

First Time as an MP

In 1646, Henry Hungerford was chosen to be the MP for Great Bedwyn. He served in what was known as the Long Parliament. However, his time in Parliament ended suddenly in 1648 when some members were removed from their positions.

Returning to Politics

Even after being removed, Henry Hungerford continued his political career.

The Convention Parliament

In 1660, a special group called the Convention Parliament was formed. Henry Hungerford was elected to be the MP for Marlborough during this important time.

Later Life

Henry Hungerford passed away in 1673 when he was 61 years old. He is remembered for his long service in the English Parliament during a period of great change.
