Henry C. Lattimore (born February 25, 1934 – died May 18, 2010) was a famous American football coach. He was known for leading college football teams. He coached for many years and helped his teams win championships.

Henry Lattimore was born in Natchez, Mississippi. He passed away in Houston, Texas, on May 18, 2010. He had been living with Alzheimer's disease.

Henry Lattimore's Coaching Journey

Henry Lattimore started his coaching career as an assistant. He worked with the Jackson State team in 1966. Later, he became a defensive coordinator for Texas Southern. A defensive coordinator helps plan how the team will stop the other team from scoring.

Head Coach at Morgan State

Lattimore became a head coach in 1976. His first head coaching job was at Morgan State University. He coached the Morgan State Bears for two seasons, in 1976 and 1977.

In 1976, his team had a great year. They won the MEAC championship. This was a big achievement for the team. Because of his success, Lattimore was named the MEAC Coach of the Year.

Leading the North Carolina Central Eagles

After Morgan State, Coach Lattimore moved to North Carolina Central University. This university is in Durham, North Carolina. He became the head coach for the North Carolina Central Eagles in 1979. He stayed in this role for a long time, coaching for twelve seasons until 1990.

During his time at North Carolina Central, he had a very good record. He helped the Eagles win two championships in the CIAA Southern Division. They won these titles in 1981 and 1982. In 1980, his team also won the overall CIAA championship.

Final Coaching Years

Coach Lattimore's last coaching job was at Virginia Union University. He coached the Virginia Union Panthers for two seasons. He was their head coach in 1993 and 1994.

Throughout his entire career as a head coach, Henry Lattimore had an impressive record. He won 84 games, lost 81, and tied 5. He was a respected coach who helped many young athletes.
