Henry Hamilton Loughnan (born 1849 – died 1939) was an important lawyer from New Zealand. He was well-known in the city of Christchurch.

Early Life and Education
Henry Loughnan was born in 1849 in Patna, a city in India. His father, Robert James Loughnan, worked as a judge there. Henry also had an older brother named Robert Loughnan, who was born in 1841.
Henry went to school at Stonyhurst College. This college is a famous school. In 1868, Henry's family moved from India to Melbourne, Australia. Not long after that, they moved again and settled in New Zealand.
A Cricketer and Lawyer
Henry Loughnan loved to play cricket. He played in four important cricket games for the Canterbury cricket team. These games are called first-class matches. He played for Canterbury between 1870 and 1886.
After his cricket days, Henry decided to become a lawyer. He trained with two judges, Justice Henry Barnes Gresson and Justice Alexander James Johnston. In 1876, he became a barrister. This means he was allowed to argue cases in court. Two years later, in 1878, he became a business partner with another lawyer named William Izard.
Serving the City
Henry Loughnan also helped his community. In May 1896, he was chosen to be a member of the Christchurch City Council. This council helps run the city of Christchurch. He was elected in an area called the Richmond ward.
Henry was a member of the city council for a long time. He served the people of Christchurch for 13 years.
Later Life and Passing
Henry Loughnan passed away on June 8, 1939. He was at his home in Avonside, which is a suburb of Christchurch.
