Henry Dyer Maddock (born in 1836, died in 1888) was a New Zealand cricketer. He played four important cricket games for the Otago team. These games were played between 1864 and 1869. Henry was born in Canada. He later became a lawyer in New Zealand and Australia.

Henry Maddock's Life and Cricket
Early Life and Law Career
Henry Maddock was born in British North America. His family moved to the Colony of New South Wales in 1853. In April 1859, he married Emma Mary Anne Evans in Melbourne.
Henry became a lawyer in Dunedin, New Zealand, in November 1862. He worked as a barrister and solicitor. He also became a partner in a law firm in Dunedin.
Cricket Adventures
Henry Maddock was the captain for Otago in a game against Southland in January 1864. He played very well in this match. He took 5 wickets for 16 runs and 7 wickets for 23 runs. Otago won the game easily.
A few days later, Henry was part of the Otago team that beat Canterbury. This was the very first first-class cricket match ever played in New Zealand. He also captained Otago in his last game. This was another win against Canterbury in December 1869.
When a touring English cricket team played Otago in February 1864, Henry was the best batsman for Otago in the first part of the game. He was the only player to score more than ten runs.
Later Life in Australia
Later, Henry Maddock moved back to Australia. He lived in Woollahra, a suburb of Sydney. He worked there as an examiner of titles, which is a job related to property law.
His first wife, Emma, passed away in Sydney in July 1878. Henry then married Georgina Eliza Logie in Parramatta in September 1878. He died at his home in Woollahra in September 1888. He was 52 years old.
