Henry married Elizabeth Davy before the year 1557. Elizabeth was the daughter of John Davy from a place called Holbeach in Lincolnshire.
Serving in the English Parliament
Henry Stafford tried to become a member of the English Parliament in 1553. Parliament is a group of people who make laws for the country. He wanted to represent Staffordshire as a 'knight of the shire'. This was a person chosen to speak for a county in Parliament.
He tried twice but was not chosen. His father believed he should have been picked because "no man" disagreed with him. However, Henry was finally elected in 1555. This time, he represented Shropshire in Parliament. He did not seem to be very active there. There are not many records of what he did. He was not listed among those who spoke against new laws.
Important Titles and Roles
Henry Stafford received an important honor in 1553. He was made a knight at the coronation of Queen Mary I. Being knighted was a special award given by the Queen.
In 1554, he became a Justice of the Peace for Shropshire. A Justice of the Peace was a local official. They helped keep order and dealt with minor legal matters.
Later, when Queen Elizabeth I became queen, Henry Stafford got another job. He was made the keeper of the records at the Tower of London. This meant he was in charge of important historical documents. He held this job until about January 1564. He later complained that he had lost this position.
Henry Stafford became the 2nd Baron Stafford when his father died on April 30, 1563. He held this important title for only three years. When he passed away on April 8, 1566, his younger brother, Edward Stafford, became the next Baron Stafford.
