Henry XV, Duke of Bavaria facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Henry XV, Duke of Bavaria, also known as Henry III in Lower Bavaria, was born on August 28, 1312. He passed away on June 18, 1333, near Deggendorf at a place called Natternberg.

Who Was Henry XV?

Henry XV was a young duke who ruled parts of Bavaria, a region in what is now Germany. He was born in the same year his father died. This meant he became a duke at a very young age.

Early Life and Family

Henry XV was the son of Otto III, Duke of Bavaria and Agnes Glowgow. Because he was so young when his father died, he was first looked after by Louis IV, Holy Roman Emperor. Henry was often called the Natternberger. This was because his favorite home was Natternberg castle.

Ruling Lower Bavaria

As he grew older, Henry XV began to rule parts of Lower Bavaria. His main city was Deggendorf. He shared power with his cousins, Henry XIV and Otto IV. They sometimes had disagreements about how to rule. In 1327, Henry XV tried to become the king of Hungary. However, his attempt was not successful.

His Marriage

Between 1326 and 1328, Henry XV married Anna of Austria. She was the daughter of Frederick I of Austria and Isabella of Aragon. Henry and Anna did not have any children. Anna lived for ten years after Henry passed away. She later married John Henry IV of Gorizia.
