Hercules Rowley (born 1679 – died 19 September 1742) was an important Anglo-Irish politician. He served in the Irish Parliament for many years.

Early Life of Hercules Rowley
Hercules Rowley was the only son of Sir John Rowley. His father, Sir John, was knighted for his help during the Restoration. This was a time when the king was brought back to power in England and Ireland.
Hercules's mother was Mary Langford. She was the oldest daughter and heir of Sir Hercules Langford, 1st Baronet. Hercules had several sisters. His sisters married into important families of the time.
Family Connections
One of his sisters, Lettice Rowley, married Arthur Loftus, 3rd Viscount Loftus. Another sister, Anne Rowley, married Sir Tristram Beresford, 1st Baronet. His sister Mary Rowley married John Clotworthy, 1st Viscount Massereene.
In 1661, Hercules's grandfather, Hercules Langford, bought a place called Lynch's Castle. This castle was located on the Summerhill Demesne in County Meath. He bought it from Henry Jones, who was the Bishop of Meath.
Political Career
Hercules Rowley became a Member of Parliament (MP). This means he was elected to represent people in the government. He represented County Londonderry.
He served in the Irish House of Commons. This was like the parliament for Ireland at the time. He was an MP from 1703 until he died in 1742. That's a long time to serve!
Important Debates
Hercules Rowley was related by marriage to another politician named Henry Maxwell. They had different ideas about a plan in 1721. This plan was to create the Bank of Ireland. They disagreed on how this new bank should work.
Personal Life
Hercules Rowley married Frances Upton on 3 January 1705. Frances was the sixth daughter of Arthur Upton. Her family lived at Castle Upton in County Antrim.
Together, Hercules and Frances had two children.
Hercules's Children
- Dorothy Beresford Rowley: She married Richard Wingfield, 1st Viscount Powerscourt. They got married in 1727.
- Hercules Langford Rowley: He was born around 1714 and died in 1794. He married Elizabeth Ormsby Upton in 1732. Elizabeth was the only daughter of Clotworthy Upton. Clotworthy Upton was also an MP.
Hercules Rowley passed away on 19 September 1742.
