Heriot is a small community located in West Otago, which is part of the South Island of New Zealand. You can find it about 20 kilometres southwest of Raes Junction. It is also 15 kilometres north of Tapanui.
The name "Heriot" might not come from the Scottish town of Heriot. Instead, it could be named after the maiden name of an early settler's wife, William Pinkerton. Other towns nearby, like Kelso and Roxburgh, were named after places in Scotland.
