About Hermann's Life
Hermann was born in 1938 in a place called Bévercé, which is now part of Malmedy in Liège Province, Belgium. He first studied to become a furniture maker. Later, he worked as an interior architect, designing inside spaces.
Starting in Comics
Hermann began his career as a comic book artist in 1964. His first four-page story appeared in the famous Franco-Belgian comics magazine Spirou. Another comic creator named Greg saw his talent. Greg then asked Hermann to work for his studio.
In 1966, Hermann started drawing the Bernard Prince series. Greg wrote the stories for this series. It was published in Tintin magazine. A few years later, in 1969, he worked with Greg again. This time, they created a western series called Comanche. This series came out around the same time as other popular western comics like Blueberry.
Creating His Own Stories
Hermann started writing his own comic stories in 1977. His first self-written series was Jeremiah. This series is set in a world after a big disaster, known as post-apocalyptic. He still creates new Jeremiah comics today.
Around the same time, he also made three comic albums for Spirou magazine. These were part of a series called Nick, inspired by the classic comic Little Nemo in Slumberland.
In 1983, Hermann began a new series called Les Tours de Bois-Maury. This comic is set in the Middle Ages. It focuses less on action and more on the characters and their journeys.
Other Works and Style
Hermann has also created many single graphic novels (long comic books). Sometimes, he works with his son, Yves H., on these stories. One of his graphic novels, Lune de Guerre, had a story written by Jean Van Hamme. This book was later turned into a movie called The Wedding Party .
Hermann's art style is very realistic. His stories often feel serious and sometimes a bit sad or angry. They often show a feeling of disappointment with how people act and with society today.

Hermann has won many awards for his amazing comic work. Here are some of them:
