Altarpiece in Valencia, a collaboration between Hernando and Yáñez

Hernando de los Llanos was a Spanish painter who lived in the 1500s. He mostly worked in the area around Cuenca, Spain. We don't know much about his early life or how he learned to paint.

However, it seems he knew a lot about the art styles of famous painters like Leonardo da Vinci and Domenico Ghirlandaio. For a while, he worked in Valencia with another artist named Fernando Yáñez de la Almedina.

Working with Leonardo da Vinci

Hernando de los Llanos is considered one of the "Leonardeschi." This means he was a follower or student of Leonardo da Vinci.

In the early 1500s, Hernando and Yáñez traveled to Florence, Italy. There, they worked with Leonardo da Vinci on his large wall painting called The Battle of Anghiari.

Their teamwork was very successful. Hernando de los Llanos continued to work with Leonardo's ideas even after he returned to Spain.
