Hervé Fischer (born in 1941) is a French artist, philosopher, and sociologist. He studied at a famous school in Paris called the École Normale Supérieure. He also earned a master's degree in philosophy. For many years, he taught about how people communicate and share ideas at the Sorbonne University.

At the same time, he became a multi-media artist. He created something called "sociological art" in 1971. This type of art often involves public participation. He worked on many projects with radio, TV, and newspapers. These projects took place in Europe and Latin American countries. Later, he moved to Quebec, Canada. He can speak French, English, German, and Spanish very well.

Hervé Fischer's Life and Work

Hervé Fischer was born in France in 1941. He is both a French and Canadian philosopher and artist. He went to the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. He also taught about communication and culture at the Sorbonne. He earned a master's degree in philosophy and a PhD in sociology.

The Centre Pompidou in Paris had a special show about his work. It was called Hervé Fischer et l'art sociologique. This show ran from June to September 2017.

Founding Organizations

Hervé Fischer helped start several important organizations. He co-founded La Cité des arts et des nouvelles technologies de Montréal. He also helped create the Quebec International Science Film Festival Telescience. Other organizations he co-founded include the Multimedia International Market and Science Pour Tous. Since 1997, he has also been the co-founder and president of the International Federation of Multimedia Associations. He was also a member of the Canadian Committee of UNESCO.

Teaching and Awards

From 2000 to 2002, he was chosen for the Daniel Langlois chair. This was for Fine Arts and Digital Technologies at Concordia University in Montreal. There, he helped create the idea for a media lab. This lab became the Hexagram group. It connects Concordia and UQAM Universities. Since 2006, he has been a professor and founder of the International Digital Observatory at UQÀM.

In 1987, he helped create a 12-minute computer-animated film. It was called "Le Chant des Étoiles." This film won a top prize in 1988. It was in an international computer animation contest in the USA. He also received the first Leonardo (MIT Press) Makepeace Tsao Award. This award came from the International Society for the Arts, Science and Technology.

In 2011, he started something new. He called it "tweet art" and "tweet philosophy." He created small digital pictures. He shared them on Twitter. These pictures often had a philosophical question or idea.

Hervé Fischer is also on the board of Artists for Peace. He has received an honorary doctorate from Quebec Universities. He gives many talks around the world. These talks are about digital technologies, art, and understanding myths.

Centre Pompidou Exhibition

Hervé Fischer's art was shown at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, France. This exhibition ended on September 11, 2017. He is an artist, sociologist, and thinker. Fischer uses his idea of sociological art to explore digital technology.

The exhibition had three parts. It showed his work from the early 1970s to the mid-1980s. Then it looked at his art from the late 1990s to the present. Finally, it explored how digital tools are used in art today. It also looked at the new habits these tools create.
