Heterocrossa is a group of moths that belong to the Carposinidae family. These moths are special because they are only found in New Zealand. This means they are endemic to that country.
For a while, scientists thought Heterocrossa was the same as another group of moths called Carposina. But later, experts like Elwood C. Zimmerman and John S. Dugdale studied them more closely. They found that Heterocrossa moths are actually different enough to be their own group. So, Heterocrossa is now seen as a separate genus, not just a part of Carposina.
