How the Band Started
The idea for Hevisaurus came from Mirka Rantanen. He is a drummer and one of the band's founders. After going to a children's music concert with his own kids, he decided to start a heavy metal band for young people. Mirka and his friends, who were also "metalheads" from Finland, began writing and recording songs together.
About Hevisaurus
Hevisaurus has released many albums since they started. Their albums have sold over 170,000 copies in Finland alone! You can also find Hevisaurus albums in other languages, like Spanish, Hungarian, Swedish, and German.
Their album Hirmuliskojen Yö (Night of the Dinosaurs) was very popular. It was the second best-selling album in Finland in 2010. That year, the band won the Emma award for best children's album. The Emma award is like the Finnish version of the Grammy Awards.
In April 2013, the band helped open an indoor amusement park. It was at Oulu’s Super Park, along with The Dudesons. Hevisaurus also has its own game for Android and iOS phones and tablets. In the game, you play through levels while listening to the band's songs. The app also has fun mini-games, like puzzles. The game was released in 2013.
Hevisaurus is also honored at the Hard Rock Café. Their photo is on the walls, and they are listed in the Hard Rock Café's international artist database. They are only the second Finnish band, after Amorphis, to receive this special honor.
The Dinosaurs' Story
According to a fun legend, five dinosaur eggs made of metal survived a huge event. This event happened about 65 million years ago in a mountain of wizards. Then, in 2009, some witches gathered at the same spot. A giant lightning bolt struck the ground, creating ash and showing the eggs. The witches chanted, and the eggs burst open! From them, five Hevisauri (the dinosaur band members) hatched.
Hevisaurus Movie
A Hevisaurus movie was made by Solar Films. It was filmed in the fall of 2014 and came out in late 2015. The movie features the beloved Hevisaurus characters. It also stars many famous and new Finnish actors.
About the Band's Rights
In 2011, there was a disagreement about who owned the rights to the Hevisaurus characters. This was between Mirka Rantanen, the band's founder, and their record company, Sony Music Entertainment. Because of this, Mirka Rantanen started a new band called “Sauruxet.” This new band included the musicians who played live with Hevisaurus. In the end, a court decided that the rights to the characters had always belonged to Sony Music Entertainment.
