History of Hideaway

The land where Hideaway is now was once part of a very large farm. This farm was owned by a Texas governor named Richard B. Hubbard. Later, a person named James Fair bought the land.

In 1967, James Fair started to plan and build the community. He named it "Hide-A-Way Lake." His plan was to create a community with about 1,350 acres (5.5 square kilometers) of land. It would have 1,944 places for homes.

In the year 2000, two groups that managed Hideaway joined together. One group, Hideaway Homeowners, Inc., was like a neighborhood club (called a HOA). It helped manage the homes and common areas. The other group, Hideaway Lake Club, Inc., ran the golf courses. When they joined, they formed a new type of local government called a municipal corporation.
