Hideki Maeda (前田 秀樹, Maeda Hideki, born May 13, 1954) is a famous Japanese football player and manager. He was born on May 13, 1954, in Kyoto, Japan. Maeda played as a midfielder and was known for his skills on the field. He played for the Japan national team and had a successful career with Furukawa Electric, winning several championships. After retiring as a player, he became a football manager, leading different teams.

Playing for Furukawa Electric

Hideki Maeda started his professional football journey in 1977. He joined a team called Furukawa Electric. This club later became known as JEF United Ichihara. He played as a midfielder for them.

Maeda was a key player for Furukawa Electric. The team won the Japan Soccer League championship in the 1985–86 season. They also won the JSL Cup three times, in 1977, 1982, and 1986. In 1986, his team also won the Asian Club Championship.

He played 209 games in the league and scored 35 goals. His great performance led to him being chosen for the "Best Eleven" team twice. This was in 1980 and 1982. Maeda played for Furukawa Electric until he retired in 1989.

Playing for Japan

Hideki Maeda also played for the Japan national football team. He made his first appearance for Japan on August 4, 1975. At that time, he was still a student at Hosei University. His first game was against Bangladesh.

In 1978, he was chosen to represent Japan at the Asian Games. He was a very important player for the national team. In the early 1980s, he even served as the team's captain. Maeda played a total of 65 games for Japan. He scored 11 goals for his country before his last game in 1984.

Becoming a Coach

After he stopped playing football, Hideki Maeda started a new career as a coach. In 1994, he began coaching at JEF United Ichihara. This was his old club, Furukawa Electric, but with a new name. He coached the youth team there in 1997.

In 1998, Maeda moved to another club called Yokogawa Electric. He managed this team for two years, until 1999. Later, in 2003, he became the manager for Mito HollyHock. He coached Mito HollyHock for five years, until 2007.
