Hideout is an exciting novel written by Gordon Korman. It is the fifth book in his popular Swindle series. The story follows Griffin Bing, often called "The Man With The Plan," and his group of clever friends: Savannah, Ben, Antonia "Pitch," Logan, and Melissa. The Story Begins
The adventure in Hideout starts when S. Wendell Palomino, also known as Swindle, returns. He is the tricky villain from the first book. This time, Swindle wants his dog, Luthor, back. Luthor used to be a scary guard dog, but now he's a beloved pet. He even almost won a big dog show! Swindle sees a chance to get rich from Luthor. He plans to use that money to cause trouble for Griffin and his friends.
Luthor's Birthday Party Trouble
Griffin knows Swindle is always up to no good. But he's still surprised when Swindle shows up at Savannah Drysdale's house. It happens right in the middle of Luthor's birthday party! Swindle claims Luthor is still his dog. He says the animal shelter in Cedarville can't find the papers that prove Savannah legally adopted Luthor. (Later, the friends discover that Swindle secretly stole these important adoption papers.)
Going to Court
Because of the missing papers, the matter goes to court. The judge decides that Savannah must give Luthor back to Swindle. Savannah is heartbroken by this decision. She asks Griffin to come up with a plan. They need to prove that Luthor truly belongs to her and her family.
The Great Hideout Plan
Griffin, being "The Man With The Plan," quickly comes up with an idea. The book is divided into three parts. Each part focuses on a different "hideout" at a summer camp. The friends decide to split up and hide Luthor at these different camps.
First Hideout: Savannah and Griffin's Camp
Savannah and Griffin take Luthor to their summer camp first. Hiding a large dog like Luthor is not easy! They have to be very careful.
Second Hideout: Melissa and Logan's Camp
Next, Melissa and Logan take Luthor to their camp. The challenges grow bigger. Swindle has hired different people to try and find Luthor. These people cause problems for the kids at the camps.
Third Hideout: Pitch and Ben's Camp
Finally, Pitch and Ben take Luthor to the last camp. The friends face many difficulties. Luthor is a heavy dog, making him hard to move around secretly. They also don't have their own transportation. They have to rely on random delivery trucks to move Luthor from one camp to another.
Overcoming Challenges
Despite all the problems, Griffin and his friends never give up. They face Swindle's hired helpers and the difficulties of moving Luthor. But if there's one thing you can count on with Griffin, it's that he believes nothing is impossible. He always finds a way to solve the problem, no matter how tough it seems.
