Highfields Lake is a beautiful, man-made lake located in the Woodlands wildlife park. You can find it near Highfields, which is just north of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England. It's a peaceful spot where people can enjoy nature.

What is Highfields Lake?

Highfields Lake is known as an "ornamental lake." This means it was built by people, not formed naturally, to look pretty and add to the beauty of the area. It's a key part of the Woodlands wildlife park, offering a home for local wildlife and a nice place for visitors.

How Was the Lake Created?

The lake gets its water from a stream called the Pick Burn. This stream then flows out of the lake and joins the River Don.

Highfields Lake was originally built a long time ago by the owners of a large house called Woodlands. This house was a grand "country house," which is a big home in the countryside. The Woodlands house also gave its name to a special "model village" built nearby. This village was carefully planned and built for the miners who worked at the Brodsworth Colliery, which was a coal mine.

Highfields Lake Today

Today, Highfields Lake is part of a larger area called High Country Park and Woodlands wildlife park. The local government, known as the Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, takes care of the park and the lake.

The original Woodlands country house is now a social club. If you visit the area, you might also notice the Doncaster Greenway North. This walking and cycling path passes just north of the lake, running alongside the A638 road.
