The Highland Falls Village Hall is an important building in Highland Falls, New York. It's a three-story brick building that looks like it came from Italy! It was built around 1894.

For many years, this building was a bank. Then, in 1967, it became the village hall. This means it's where the local government of Highland Falls works. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. This list helps protect important historical places.

What Does the Village Hall Look Like?

The Highland Falls Village Hall is located right in the middle of downtown Highland Falls. It's a large, three-story building made of brick. It has a flat roof and many windows.

At the street level, you can see glass storefronts. The main entrance is in the middle of the building. The windows on the second and third floors have cool round arches above them. Some of the windows on the south side were filled in with bricks a long time ago. The building also has decorative brick columns that go all the way up.

A Look Back: History of the Building

We don't know the exact year the Highland Falls Village Hall was built. We also don't know its first purpose. Maps from 1859 and 1875 show a brick building here. But a map from 1891 does not. Local records suggest the building was built in 1894.

In 1907, a person named Mr. Kreutz sold the building. It was bought by the First National Bank of Highland Falls. At that time, some changes were made to the outside of the building. Storefronts were added, and some upper windows were bricked in.

Later, the First National Bank became part of Marine Midland Bank. In 1967, the village of Highland Falls bought the building. It has been used as the village hall ever since. Not many changes have been made to it since then.
