Highview, Louisville facts for kids
Highview used to be a special kind of area called a "census-designated place" in Jefferson County, Kentucky. In 2000, about 15,161 people lived there. On January 6, 2003, Highview became part of the city of Louisville. This happened when Louisville and the surrounding areas of Jefferson County joined together. Now, Highview is a neighborhood inside Louisville.
About Highview
Highview is located between two other places called Okolona and Ferncreek. Like these areas, Highview started to grow a lot in the 1950s and 1960s. It quickly became a busy suburb with many homes. Other smaller areas like Springmill and Hollow Creek are also considered part of Highview.
In 1969, a new high school was needed in the Highview area. The school was first going to be named Highview High School. However, it was soon renamed Marion C. Moore High School. It was named after Marion C. Moore, who was a teacher, principal, and one of the first counselors in the Jefferson County schools. This school was built to help with overcrowding at Fern Creek and Southern High School.
Highview also has three main private schools:
- St. Bernard is a Catholic school.
- St. Athanasius is another Catholic school.
- Whitefield Academy is a Christian school.
There is also a nice place for outdoor fun called Highview Park.

In 2000, about 15,161 people lived in Highview. There were about 5,919 households, which are groups of people living together in one home. Most of the people living in Highview were White (about 89%). About 8% were African American, and smaller numbers were Asian, Native American, or from other backgrounds. About 2% of the people were Hispanic or Latino.
The average age of people in Highview was 38 years old. About 23% of the population was under 18 years old. Many adults were between 25 and 44 years old (about 30%).
