"Hikaru no Gen-chan" (光のゲンちゃん) is a fun song by a Japanese artist named Showta. It was released as his sixth single on April 23, 2008. This song was special because it was featured on a popular Japanese TV show called Minna no Uta during April and May 2008. It helped celebrate a really old and famous Japanese story called The Tale of Genji, which was 1000 years old at the time!

About "Hikaru no Gen-chan"

This song is a lively dance tune. It was created by Akira Senju, who wrote the music, and Kenzo Saeki, who wrote the words. They made it especially for the Minna no Uta TV show on NHK, a big TV channel in Japan.

The main reason for this song was to celebrate a huge milestone: the 1000th anniversary of The Tale of Genji. This is one of the oldest and most famous novels in Japanese history! The song was played on TV for two months, in April and May of 2008. Showta sang the song, and his voice was praised for hitting high notes. The animated part of the TV segment was created by Hiroshi Nishimura.

The single was officially released on April 23, 2008. It was put out by King Records. Along with "Hikaru no Gen-chan," the single also included another song called "Sausage." "Sausage" is an R&B style song. It had actually been released before on Showta's album, Eve.
