Hilda Jerea was born in a city called Iaşi in Romania. She grew up to become one of Romania's respected musicians. Her life was dedicated to creating and performing music.

Early Life and Musical Education

Hilda Jerea started her musical journey in her hometown of Iaşi. She attended the Conservatory of Music there. This is a special school where people learn to play instruments and compose music. Later, she moved to Bucharest to continue her studies. In Bucharest, she had some very famous teachers. These included Mihail Jora, Florica Musicescu, and Dimitrie Cuclin. After finishing her studies in Romania, Hilda Jerea traveled abroad. She went to Paris, France, and Budapest, Hungary, to learn even more about music.

A Talented Performer

Hilda Jerea began performing as a pianist in 1936. She played in many concerts, sometimes as a solo performer with an orchestra. These types of pieces are called concertos. She also played in what are known as "chamber ensembles." These are small groups of musicians who play together.

Hilda Jerea didn't just play music; she also led it! She founded her own chamber orchestra in Bucharest. She named this orchestra Musica Nova, which means "New Music." She was the conductor of this orchestra, guiding the musicians as they played.

Composing Her Own Music

Besides playing the piano, Hilda Jerea was also a gifted composer. She wrote many pieces of music. Her most famous work is an oratorio called Under the Wake Up Sun. An oratorio is a large musical piece, usually for a choir, solo singers, and an orchestra. It often tells a story, much like an opera, but without costumes or stage actions. Hilda Jerea's oratorio was composed in 1951. Its original Romanian title is Sub soarele deşteptării.

Awards and Recognition

Hilda Jerea's talent and hard work were recognized by her country. She received important awards for her contributions to music. One of these was the State Prize of Romania. She was also given the Order of Labour. These awards showed how much her work was valued. Hilda Jerea passed away in Bucharest in 1980.
